Untold is organizing the sixth edition of the Black Heritage Festival
This year’s festival is themed “Echoes of Rebellion” and explores how resistance, spirituality, culture, and heritage are passed down from generation to generation. Through music, dance, film, spoken word, and theater, stories from the African diaspora are brought to light and connected to contemporary perspectives.
The Black Heritage Festival takes place throughout the month of June at various locations in Amsterdam. The program kicks off on June 13 with a festive opening night at the Bijlmer Park Theater, where performance, film, and community come together. At June 16 continues in De Zwijger Warehouse an in-depth discussion about spirituality within the African diaspora. On June 25 presented by the South African writer, curator, and activist Answer Maisela the lecture "Echoes of Rebellion: Lineages of Liberation," in which she reflects on solidarity, family history, and the legacy of resistance across generations.
In addition, the festival organizes various tours that allow participants to discover stories, places, and cultural heritage connected to the history and presence of the African diaspora in the Netherlands.
With a diverse program, the Black Heritage Festival brings the past and present together and invites visitors to reflect on the enduring influence of heritage, identity, and collective memory.
