3rd Annual Black Heritage Festival 2023

From June 2 through July 2, 2023, Untold will present the Black Heritage Festival (BHF). A festival featuring various activities such as lectures, seminars, and workshops where professional and amateur practitioners of the performing arts and heritage specialists come together to inspire one another and exchange knowledge about the history, present, and future of African intangible cultural heritage. BHF will take place on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in the lead-up to Keti Koti (commemoration and celebration of the abolition of slavery in the Kingdom of the Netherlands on July 1, 1863).

The festival features master classes led by national and international dance companies, lectures by anthropologists and heritage specialists on the significance of dance, music, and traditions in the African diaspora, seminars led by experts in African performing arts, African dance performances, and various hands-on workshops for children, teens, and adults.
